Revolutionary Innovation: Telegram Introduces Live Editable Stories, a First in the Realm of Social Media

How often have you encountered the frustration of making a typo on your Instagram story, leading you to take it down and recreate it from scratch? Chances are, it’s happened quite a number of times. In fact, it’s safe to assume that most of us have experienced this situation at some point. During such instances, the wish for the ability to edit a story after it’s gone live often crosses our minds. While Meta is yet to find a solution for this, Telegram has already executed it. Back in June of this year, reports emerged about Telegram’s plans to introduce a stories feature akin to those on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. Now, the instant messaging app has begun rolling out this feature with an interesting twist – allowing you to edit your stories on Telegram even after they’ve been posted.

Telegram Introduces the Stories Feature

As previously mentioned, not only can you now post stories on Telegram, but you can also edit them once they’ve gone live.

“For the first time in the history of social media, you can update any element of your story at any time – changing its visibility, caption, on-screen text, stickers, or anything else – without having to delete and repost it from scratch,” the company was quoted by IANS as saying. “Stories are displayed in an expandable section at the top of your screen – so you still see the full length of your chat list and folders,” they added.

According to reports, Telegram currently boasts over 800 million users. Since its inception in 2013 as an ad-free messaging app, the platform has made considerable progress.

Exploring the Stories Feature

In reference to the Stories feature, Telegram explains that it harnesses the potential of the app’s ‘powerful media editor’, which empowers users to ‘add text, drawings, stickers, or tag your location’.

Furthermore, users will have the ability to manage the visibility of their stories. They can opt to make their story visible to everyone, only their contacts (with exceptions), a selected group of contacts, or a list of Close Friends.

Additionally, users can choose to conceal their stories from specific individuals. This can be achieved by moving the respective user to the ‘Hidden’ list in the Contacts section. The option to set an expiration time for a story will also be available, allowing users to choose visibility periods of 6, 12, 24, or 48 hours.

Telegram Founder’s Perspective

When announcing the feature in June, Telegram Founder and CEO Pavel Durov noted that users had long been requesting the implementation of Stories.

“For years, our users have been asking us to implement Stories in Telegram. More than half of all feature requests that we receive are related to Stories,” Durov’s post on his Telegram channel read.

The Stories feature permits individuals to share videos or photos that automatically disappear after 24 hours. Prior to Meta, Snapchat pioneered the concept of the Story feature back in 2013.”
