Elon Musk’s X to Introduce Premium Subscription Tiers Offering Ad-Free User Experience

Technology

Twitter, formerly known as X and under the leadership of Elon Musk, is reportedly considering the introduction of a premium subscription tier that would enable users to bid farewell to advertisements.

Since Elon Musk’s high-profile acquisition of Twitter in October of last year, the social media platform has undergone a significant transformation. Musk’s aim is to reshape Twitter, now rebranded as X, into an all-encompassing application that enables users to make payments, express their opinions, connect with others, and much more.

Before Musk’s takeover, Twitter primarily served as a platform for users to express their thoughts in limited characters. However, the platform has since evolved to allow the sharing of longer videos, extended tweet lengths, and the option to subscribe to specific accounts, among other features. Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino recently confirmed that X users will soon have the capability to make payments on the platform, and now, there are reports suggesting that X Premium subscribers may soon have the option to remove ads.

X Premium, previously known as Twitter Blue and known for offering a blue checkmark and other perks, may introduce various subscription tiers in the near future. Researcher Aaron, who analyzed the X app’s code, revealed the existence of three new X Premium tiers: Basic, Standard, and Plus. According to Aaron’s findings, Basic Premium users will continue to see full-page advertisements on the platform, while Standard users will encounter fewer ads. Premium Plus subscribers, who opt for the highest-priced tier, will enjoy an ad-free experience.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from X regarding these premium subscription tiers. Therefore, it is prudent to await an official announcement to ascertain the details.

Prior to Musk’s acquisition, Twitter did not offer a subscription service like Twitter Blue. The blue checkmark was previously a means of verifying the authenticity of an account, granted only to eligible users. When Musk assumed control of Twitter, he removed blue checkmarks from all users and transformed the service into a paid offering, alongside other benefits.

Upcoming Features on X:

Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino recently shared a video detailing upcoming features on X. In addition to payments, the video highlighted the introduction of video calling, expanding beyond the text-based communication that X previously offered. Users will soon have the ability to search for job opportunities on the platform as well.

Elon Musk’s Suggestion of a Monthly Fee for X Usage:

There have been recent reports indicating that Elon Musk, the owner of X, hinted at the possibility of implementing a small monthly fee for users of the platform. Musk discussed this during a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, citing the fee as a measure to combat the proliferation of bots on the platform. He emphasized, “It’s the only way I can think of to combat vast armies of bots,” as reported by CBS News.
