The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Hirasar Greenfield International Airport, which is Gujarat’s first Greenfield Airport, During his two-day visit to Rajasthan and Gujarat from July 27-28. Alongside the airport, PM Modi will also dedicate several significant projects worth over ₹860 crore.
The Hirasar Greenfield International Airport, spread over an area of 2,500 acres, is designed to serve as a crucial transportation hub for people traveling abroad from the state. The inauguration of these projects is expected to enhance connectivity and promote development in the region, offering improved facilities and opportunities for the people of Gujarat.
The Rajkot International Airport, also known as Hirasar Greenfield Airport, has several notable features:
- Location and Cost: Approximately 30 km from Rajkot and the airport been developed at a cost of ₹1,405 crore.
- Runway: The airport features a well-designed runway that is 3040 meters (3.04 km) long and 45 meters wide.
- Sustainable Terminal Building: The terminal building at the airport complies with GRIHA-4 rules, which stands for Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment. The New Terminal Building (NITB) incorporates various sustainability features, such as a Double Insulated Roofing System, skylights, LED Lighting, Low Heat Gain Glazing, and more.
- Focus on Sustainability: The airport emphasizes sustainability and has implemented a solar power system, green belt, and rainwater harvesting system. Additionally, it provides essential facilities like one parallel half taxi-way, a rapid exit taxi track, an interim terminal building, and cargo and MRO/hangars.
- Strategic Location: Located on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway, the airport’s strategic positioning aims to streamline logistics for various industries in the region, facilitating better connectivity and economic growth.
