Current Affairs Technology

Tata Group is indeed in talks to acquire Taiwan-based Wistron Corp’s factory in Karnataka, India, and if the deal is finalized, Tata would become the first Indian company to assemble iPhones for India and other global markets. According to Bloomberg’s report, both parties are nearing an agreement, and a formal takeover could occur as early as August. Wistron currently assembles iPhone 14 at its Karnataka facility, which would be overseen by Tata Group after the acquisition.

This potential deal holds significance for India’s hardware manufacturing sector and aligns with the long-term goal of the Narendra Modi-led government to boost the country’s reputation in this industry. The government has been actively promoting the “Made in India” initiative, which was also a topic of discussion during Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to the United States. By having Tata Group manufacture iPhones in India, it could contribute to the government’s objective of increasing local manufacturing and creating more job opportunities in the country.
