Meta Introduces Personalized Sticker Creation Feature on Instagram, Empowering Users to Generate Custom Stickers from Their Photos

Meta recently announced the introduction of a new AI tool across its platform, encompassing Instagram and WhatsApp. Among the tools is the AI stickers feature, enabling users to craft personalized stickers through text commands. While this feature is still undergoing testing, it appears that Meta has quietly integrated a new personalized sticker creator into its Instagram app, mirroring WhatsApp’s capabilities. The Instagram feature allows users to create and share custom stickers from their photos, although it may not yet be accessible to all users, with the potential for broader availability in the future.

The presence of this feature on Instagram for iOS was initially spotted by India Today Tech through a notification. They also provided a step-by-step guide on creating personalized stickers:

  1. Open the Instagram app and start a new Story or Reel.
  2. Tap the sticker icon.
  3. Choose the “Create” sticker option.
  4. Select the photo you wish to transform into a sticker.
  5. Use your finger to outline the part of the photo you want as a sticker.
  6. Once you’re satisfied, tap the “Done” button.
  7. Your custom sticker will be saved to your sticker palette for use in your future Stories or Reels.

When the feature becomes available to you, Instagram will send a notification.

Regarding the AI sticker feature, it will be incorporated into future app updates. AI-generated stickers will allow users to generate custom stickers by employing text prompts. Powered by Meta’s extensive language model, Llama 2, this feature is anticipated to produce multiple unique, high-quality stickers within seconds. AI-generated stickers will be accessible in Facebook Stories, Instagram Stories, DMs, Messenger, and WhatsApp, initially rolling out to select English language users in the coming month.

Additionally, Meta unveiled new generative AI tools at its Connect event. These tools will enable users to edit images and create stickers using text prompts. AI image editing will be integrated into Instagram, and AI-generated chat stickers will be extended to Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

Instagram will introduce two new AI photo editing features: “restyle,” allowing users to alter their photo style with text prompts such as “watercolour” or “magazine collage,” and “backdrop,” enabling users to modify photo backgrounds with text prompts like “beach at sunset.
