Meta Ventures into the AI Chatbot Arena: Unveils Meta AI Assistant and a Lineup of AI Personalities during Meta Connect 2023 Event

During the Meta Connect 2023 event held on Wednesday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a significant announcement regarding Meta’s entry into the world of artificial intelligence chatbots. Meta revealed its very own virtual assistant, as well as a diverse array of AI personas, aimed at reshaping user interactions and delivering a seamless, intelligent experience across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger.

In an official blog post, Meta stated, “Today at Connect, we introduced you to new AI experiences and features that can enhance your connections with others – and give you the tools to be more creative, expressive, and productive.” Let’s delve into the latest Meta AI and other AI innovations unveiled at Meta Connect 2023.

Meta AI for WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram: Much like other AI chatbots on the market, such as Google Bard and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Meta’s new AI chatbot, known as Meta AI, serves as a versatile AI assistant capable of assisting users with a range of tasks, including answering queries, generating text, and translating languages. The chatbot is powered by a custom model that incorporates technology from Meta’s Llama 2 and LLM research. Additionally, Meta has partnered with Microsoft Bing to provide users with real-time information access and image generation. Meta AI conveniently presents options directly within the chat, allowing groups to collectively decide on a location to explore.

The new Meta AI chatbot will soon be accessible to users on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, and Quest 3.

Meta AI Characters: In addition to Meta AI, the company is introducing 28 other AI personas in beta, available for messaging on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. These AI personas represent a diverse range of characters, each with its own unique backstory.

To make interactions feel more like conversations with familiar individuals, Meta has collaborated with cultural icons and influencers to embody and personify some of these AI personas. These AI personalities will have profiles on Instagram and Facebook, allowing users to learn more about them and engage with their distinct personalities.

Among the AI personas are Charli D’Amelio as Coco, a dance enthusiast, and Snoop Dogg as Dungeon Master, offering choose-your-own-adventure experiences with the Dungeon Master.

Meta AI Stickers: Meta is also introducing personalized AI stickers, enabling users to create customized stickers for their chats and stories. Powered by Llama 2 and an image generation model called Emu, this AI tool swiftly transforms users’ text prompts into high-quality, unique stickers.

Meta is rolling out AI stickers to select English-language users on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook Stories.

Meta Introduces AI Editing Features: Meta is incorporating two new AI features into Instagram: Restyle and Backdrop. Restyle allows users to apply visual styles to their images using text prompts, while Backdrop alters the background or scene of an image based on prompts. To protect privacy, Meta emphasizes that images created with Restyle and Backdrop will clearly indicate the use of AI to prevent them from being mistaken for human-generated content.

Additionally, Meta is launching AI Studio, a platform that will empower businesses, creators, and developers to build AI applications for Meta’s messaging platforms and the metaverse.
