UGC Advises Universities Against Displaying Aadhar Card Numbers on Degrees and Certificates, Citing Privacy Concerns

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a directive to all universities, instructing them not to include Aadhar Card numbers on students’ degrees and certificates, as this practice could compromise students’ personal data.

To address this concern, authorities are encouraged to use only a portion of the Aadhar card number rather than displaying the entire number to prevent any potential misuse of students’ information.

The UGC emphasizes that the public disclosure of students’ personal data is strictly prohibited, and it is mandatory for all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to comply with UGC guidelines in this regard.
