Students Expresses Concerns of Leaving UK Due to Marking Boycott

Current Affairs

Due to the protracted dispute between UCU and employers lasting nearly three months in UK, students have been unable to obtain their complete qualifications, leading to disruptions during graduation ceremonies such as Edinburgh University, where students received empty scrolls accompanied by an apology letter on Tuesday.

Additionally, a protest took place in Bristo Square outside McEwan Hall, where a graduation ceremony was being held. The union’s ongoing boycott, initiated on 20 April, has the potential to impact over half a million graduations this summer. Until employers present an improved offer on pay and conditions, the union has pledged to persist with its action. Universities are independently determining measures to mitigate the impact, resulting in varying effects on students.
