Micron semiconductor testing and assembly plant to be built in Gujarat with a total expenditure of USD 2.75 billion. Micron will invest USD 825 million in the semiconductor test and assembly plant, with the remainder funded by the government. A US official stated Thursday during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit that Micron will invest $800 million in an Indian semiconductor facility.

Micron's Semiconductor Plant will Create 5000 jobs

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, stated that tremendous progress has been done in the previous 18 months following PM Narendra Modi’s introduction of the Semiconductor Vision and the anticipated investment of 76,000 crores to catalyse and expand India’s Semicon Ecosystem. “This is a Big Big Milestone in India’s Roadmap and Growth as a Semiconductor Nation,” said Chandrasekhar.

“This investment will be a crucial building block in the country’s blossoming semiconductor ecosystem,” the minister stated. Micron will construct and operate the assembly and testing facility following the company’s sustainability goals and environmental obligations on a local and global scale.

Career Prospectus in Semi-conductor Plants

Micron will receive 50% fiscal support for the overall project cost from the Indian central government, as well as incentives worth 20% of the total project cost from the state of Gujarat, under the scheme. The scheme will foster employment options in the country.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Information Technology and Telecom, stated that Micron’s investment in setting up assembly and test manufacturing in India will fundamentally reshape India’s semiconductor landscape and create tens of thousands of high-tech and construction jobs.

Micron expects the plant to generate up to 5,000 new direct jobs and 15,000 new community jobs over the following few years. “Micron’s new facility will enable assembly and test manufacturing for both DRAM and NAND products, addressing demand from both domestic and international markets,” according to the release.
