BENGALURU: In a milestone for Bangalore University, the varsity received an A++ grade and a CGPA of 3.75 in its fourth cycle of NAAC accreditation. The university claims it is the first public university to achieve this.
“With this achievement, Bangalore University would receive complete autonomy and national recognition. It has also improved student employability. It has also received the authority to establish off-campus programs within the country and overseas, hybrid and online courses, apply for Institutional eminence, and student exchange programmes, as well as enhanced foreign tie-ups/collaborations for research initiatives,” said vice chancellor Jayakar M Shetty.
BU had received an A grade and a CGPA of 3.16 in the previous two cycles. The NAAC team visited Bangalore University from May 17-19, 2023.
BU officials attributed the achievement to various reforms including a digital evaluation system, the introduction of new UG and PG courses, increased faculty publications, and the highest research funding, “with around 130 crores in the last five years”. It also has a high citation index, improved support for students from underrepresented groups, and biodiversity conservation.
“The university provides 108 PG and UG programmes, as well as 42 PhD programmes. It has also become the most popular place for higher education. This can be seen by the average demand ratio, which has been 1:7 during the last five years. Some courses have a demand-supply ratio of more than 1:20,” he said.
