Possible Clash: CBSE 12th Board Exam and JEE Main Session 2 – CBSE Responds

According to details, the JEE Main Session 2 exam is scheduled to take place from April 1 to April 15. This raises the prospect of a scheduling conflict between the CBSE board exams and JEE Main. Here is the response from CBSE examination controller, Sanyam Bhardwaj

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has unveiled the datesheets for Class 10 and 12 board exams in 2024, with over 35 lakh students preparing to participate in the upcoming examinations. The Class 12 board exams are scheduled to take place from February 15 to April 2, 2024. Following these exams, a significant number of students typically transition to the JEE Main examination, marking a shift from school-based assessments to nationally recognized competitive exams for engineering program admissions.

The interplay between standardized board exams and entrance tests has raised concerns among students and parents. A critical question for the academic year 2024 is whether there will be a scheduling conflict between the CBSE Class 12th Board Exam and JEE Main Session 2, which is slated to occur between April 1 and April 15.

Addressing this concern, Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj reassured that the board has taken measures to ensure a sufficient time gap between these important exams. Bhardwaj stated, “While devising the date sheet, the board has taken into account the necessity for an adequate interval between these two examinations. We have considered the dates of competitive exams such as JEE while formulating the schedule for class 12.”

While previous years did not see alignment between CBSE board exam dates and JEE Main exam dates, concerns have been consistently raised about the challenges of simultaneous preparation for both exams, especially with practical exams scheduled close together. If the board adheres to the original schedule starting board exams on February 15, 2024, there may be a direct clash with the JEE Main Session 2 exam scheduled from April 1 to 15, 2023.
