Telangana Introduces ‘Breakfast for School Children’ Program Initiated by the Chief Minister

Minister for IT and Industries Rama Rao Discusses the Scheme’s Implementation in 27,147 Government Schools Statewide

On Friday, Telangana inaugurated the ‘Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme,’ aimed at providing nutritious meals to approximately 23 lakh government school students. Telangana Ministers, including KT Rama Rao, officially launched the program at various locations.

Minister for IT and Industries Rama Rao, speaking at the launch, disclosed that the scheme would be rolled out in all 27,147 government schools across the state. He praised the quality and taste of the breakfast and urged officials to maintain food quality rigorously by regularly collecting random samples for quality testing.

Notably, while a similar scheme exists in Tamil Nadu for students in classes I to V, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao envisioned extending it to students up to class 10.

Originally planned to commence on October 24, Vijaya Dashami day, for students from classes 1 to 10, the launch was moved up.

The scheme covers all students in government and local bodies’ schools on all working days, as stated in a Government Order. It is an effort to address the nutritional needs of school-going children, a longstanding concern, and to ease the burden on working mothers, according to the BRS government.
