Current Affairs

The Agricultural and Farmer Welfare Department of the Union unveiled an innovative AI-driven chat assistant, streamlining farmers’ access to scheme details and enhancing the efficiency of grievance resolution.

The Government of India’s Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has achieved a notable milestone in its efforts to expand the effectiveness and accessibility of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme by introducing an innovative AI Chatbot. This remarkable advancement was unveiled at an event in New Delhi, which drew the presence of esteemed representatives from both the central and state administrations.

An Innovative Leap Forward for Agriculturists

The inauguration of the AI Chatbot by Shri Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, signifies a momentous step in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s overarching mission to catalyze transformative improvements in the livelihoods of farmers and enhance governance through technological innovations.

Shri Choudhary underscored the AI Chatbot’s essential role in granting farmers effortless access to scheme details and streamlining the redressal of grievances. Furthermore, he underscored the imperative of extending this service to encompass crucial facets like meteorological data, soil conditions, and financial transactions.

Enhancing Agricultural Practices through AI Empowerment

The AI-driven Chatbot, introduced alongside the PM-KISAN initiative, functions as a comprehensive resource for program beneficiaries by delivering prompt and precise responses to their inquiries regarding the program. This signifies a groundbreaking milestone, as it represents the first instance of AI Chatbot integration within a prominent flagship program of the Union Government. Developed and refined with the valuable assistance of the EKstep Foundation and Bhashini, the Chatbot’s primary goal is to empower farmers with a user-friendly and easily accessible platform.

During its initial development phase, the AI Chatbot will serve as a valuable resource for farmers seeking information about their application status, payment details, ineligibility status, and other updates related to the program. Accessible via the PM KISAN mobile app, the Chatbot is seamlessly integrated with Bhashini, offering multilingual support to accommodate the linguistic and regional diversity among PM KISAN beneficiaries. This technological integration not only enhances transparency but also equips farmers with the knowledge needed to make well-informed decisions.

Broadening Language Accessibility

At present, the Chatbot is accessible in both English and Hindi, with plans for expansion into Bengali, Odia, Telugu, Tamil, and Marathi in the near future. Anticipated by October or November 2023, it is set to offer its services in all 22 official languages of the nation. The introduction of this AI Chatbot is primed to usher in a transformative era for the PM-KISAN scheme, greatly enhancing accessibility and operational efficiency, thereby simplifying farmers’ access to vital information and support.
