Red Alert Issued for Karnataka’s Coastal Regions, Heavy Rain Warning in Kerala

Due to the forecast of very heavy rainfall and the subsequent disruption of normal life in the coastal districts of Karnataka, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert till Tuesday morning. The districts of Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi are likely to receive rainfall of over 200 mm in the next 24 hours. Moreover, Mangalore experienced heavy rains on Tuesday morning, and high tides are expected along the Mangalore and Karwar coasts. In response to the situation, schools and colleges in eight districts of Karnataka were closed on Monday.

Similarly, in Kerala, educational institutions have been shut in four districts, namely Wayanad, Kannur, Malappuram, and Kozhikode, due to heavy rainfall, with Kozhikode receiving 11 cm of rain and Thrissur recording 4 cm on Monday. The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for the entire state of Kerala. In Hyderabad, the capital city of Telangana, a heavy downpour on Monday resulted in massive traffic jams at multiple locations, leading to an orange alert being issued. Consequently, schools and colleges in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been instructed to remain closed on Tuesday.
