Matter Motor Works, an innovation start-up focused on technology-led solutions, and Bharti Airtel, a prominent telecommunications service provider in India, have announced a strategic partnership. The collaboration aims to deploy Airtel’s IoT (Internet of Things) solution in Matter AERA, India’s first and only geared electric motorbike.

As part of this partnership, Airtel will enable advanced automotive-grade eSIMs (embedded SIM cards) on all Matter AERA bikes. The pre-booking for these bikes began on May 17th. In the initial phase, 60,000 Matter bikes will be equipped with Airtel eSIMs, enabling advanced IoT features and providing a smart and connected experience powered by Airtel’s nationwide superior network.

Over the next three years, Matter plans to produce more than 300,000 electric bikes. Airtel’s advanced IoT platform, known as “Airtel IoT Hub,” will facilitate real-time tracking of these vehicles, monitor their performance using advanced analytics, and ensure high reliability with telco-grade security measures.

Harish Laddha, CEO – Emerging Business at Airtel, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating that Airtel is proud to collaborate with Matter Motor Works and offer best-in-class connected mobility solutions through their cutting-edge IoT technology. As India strives to reduce its carbon footprint, green mobility solutions will play a vital role in achieving the country’s net-zero goals. Airtel aims to set new benchmarks through this partnership, demonstrating how technology can enable efficient services and solutions. The company remains committed to driving the IoT agenda and collaborating with various industry players, including electric vehicles, automotive, utilities, logistics, and fintech companies.

Mohal Lalbhai, Founder and CEO of Matter, emphasized the significance of connectivity in the future of motorbikes. He expressed delight in partnering with Airtel and leveraging IoT capabilities to enhance connected experiences, making Matter’s AERA the smart bike of the future. This partnership marks the beginning of their journey to bring connectivity on the move and harness the power of IoT to continuously enhance user experiences.
