India- US Announce Flurry of Deals: Defence and Technology Among the Deals



The visit of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi to the United Nations is happening around the world. With this visit comes the most awaited deals between the nations: the Defence and Technology Deals.

Defence Deals:

Military treaties between the countries will assist India defend its borders with China and Pakistan, and will hopefully lessen India’s dependency on Russia for military supplies. President Joe Biden and the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi are all set to showcase the power of new relations between India and the USA on many fronts. Officials highlighted three announcements in the Defence sector, which goes as follows:

  • India and the United States are set to announce a contract in which General Electric and Hindustan Aeronautics will jointly manufacture F414 jet engines in India.
  • They are also likely to master ship repair agreements, which will save the US military money and time by allowing US naval ships to be maintained and repaired at Indian shipyards.
  • Third, the India-US Defence Acceleration Ecosystem will seek to link India’s expanding private sector defence industry with the US defence sector.
India- US Announce Defence & Tech Deals

India is working hard to diversify away from Russian military weapons. Diversification is being pursued by countries other than the United States. Our allies and partners in France, the United Kingdom, Israel, and other countries are actively supporting measures to safeguard India’s defence capabilities in general. India is also largely expected to buy MQ-9B SeaGuardian drones, a deal that has long been stymied by red tape.

Collaboration in Technology:

Many companies around the world recognise India’s trust and tremendous talent.
Modi’s visit comes at a time when the United States is pursuing a “friend-shoring” strategy to diversify away from China and tap into the possibilities of other countries in the region.
In terms of technology, officials stated that US and Indian corporations will collaborate to establish semiconductor facilities to enhance supply chain diversification.
The two countries are also likely to announce agreements to enhance crucial mineral supply chains, advance telecommunication capabilities, and collaborate on artificial intelligence advances.
